I've read "All My Sins Remembered", which was a novel assembled from short stories. It was good, but flawed in the sense that its roots were a bit too visible. It's amazing that Marsbound manages to be so seamless, I guess it's another testament to Haldeman's skill. I look forward to reading the second and third books, and to checking out your blog. Cheers!Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01434941875745803383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3202039696011142533.post-23027628185432893382010-02-11T19:59:25.609+01:002010-02-11T19:59:25.609+01:00I talked to Joe Haldeman recently about his latest...I talked to Joe Haldeman recently about his latest, Starbound, and he told me that the series started out as a novella -- and was originally rejected by the editor! Now, it's winning critical acclaim, and Joe has been named to the Grand Master Award, the highest award in science fiction. Also, Ridley Scott (yes, THAT Ridley Scott) is considering turning The Forever War into a 3D movie. I urge you to read the entire Aubrey-Maturin series if you haven't already done so. If you take a look at my latest book ("Defying Empire: Trading with the Enemy in Colonial New York" -- http://yalepress.yale.edu/YUPBOOKS/reviews.asp?isbn=9780300118407) you will see ways in which an artist such as O'Brien can influence the construction of a work of history based entirely on manuscript sources. Although a novelist, O'Brien's work is steeped in archival research. I wish you well on your O'Brien adventure, TMTtmthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12450768582283857258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3202039696011142533.post-39948117634507299112008-05-05T17:47:00.000+02:002008-05-05T17:47:00.000+02:00Iain Banks is my new favorite author. I don't care for non-fiction (except political) and probably wouldn't have read Raw Spirit if anyone but Banks had written it but I enjoyed it tremendously. He may even be able to lure me into sf which I've never read.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05713620060552827217noreply@blogger.com
